He married Maribel Horton Kimball, NE, October 4, 1931. Maribel was born Sheridan, WY November 18, 1910. Maribel was the daughter of James Lisle Horton and Grace Cora Jobe. Maribel died March 22, 1997 Cheyenne, WY, at 86 years of age. She was cremated and his ashes placed in Salt Creek Canyon between Globe and Superior Arizona. She was an avid horsewoman in the 1940-1955 era and she worked for the Federal Government at F. E. Warren Air Force Base in a highly security position for 20 years

Edward R. Caldwell and Maribel Horton had the following children:
